About Remnants

Torn Space introduced Remnants in the fall of 2021 as an immersive performance experience blending virtual reality, film, light design, sculpture, live performance and sound design in their newly renovated theater space at 612 Fillmore Ave. in Buffalo. The success of that run and the addition of several new elements has led to a return of Remnants for another limited run on Fridays and Saturdays March 25 through April 9, 2022.

For this latest incarnation of Remnants, Torn Space is partnering with Mirabo Press, a printmaking studio that offers limited edition printmaking to individuals and galleries, fashion designer Kylie Priscilla and designer Tim Stegner to create customized fashion garments imprinted with iconography from the Torn Space mythology. In an act of performance, fashion and printing, Remnants will feature a live performance with applied print graphics to the actors and showcase a machine-based application of graphics by Mirabo Press onto limited edition garments

In groups of six, audiences will experience moments from the past and construct new meanings in the present. Drawing from Torn Space’s original mythology, this project contains traces of past works combined in a fresh, intimate installation with limited and staggered seating. Tickets are offered in 30-minute time slots and purchasers of each time slot will enter every fifteen minutes to allow adequate spacing and comfortable movement throughout the installation. Torn Space resident designers Justin Rowland (sound), Frank Napolski (light/installation), Eclectric Oil and Light (light), Kristina Siegel (scenic/installation), FLATSITTER/Kyle Marler (virtual reality and film), Timothy Stegner (Dramaturgical Consultant and Designer) and Jessica Wegrzyn (costume design) will create a series of installation stations for visitors to explore throughout the beautifully renovated theater space in the rear of the Adam Mickiewicz Library and Dramatic Circle at 612 Fillmore Ave. Each station will utilize and re-frame moments from nine years of past Torn Space original works to create an interactive experience of the company’s sprawling mythology.

Remnants is being presented in the newly-renovated 1895 Adam Mickiewicz Library and Dramatic Circle, featuring a state-of-the-art performance venue with indoor/outdoor flexibility, designed by studioNORTH Architecture. Audiences will be able to enjoy the usual quality Eastern European beers and liquor at the updated bar and entry area before entering the theater with its newly-equipped grid system, lighting, tech booth, curtains, NanoWall and a “crypt,” or sub-floor performance space.
