August 9-11, 16-18, 2024 | Doors 7:30pm Show starts promptly at 8pm

(Rain date: 8/12)

Silo City – 85 Silo City Row, Buffalo

“Commensality (the act of eating together) is important for social communion, order, health and well-being. (Johnson et al, 2021).

Meet us under the Cottonwood – There is a seat for you at the table.

What happens during a shared meal that contributes to the intangible bonds that form within a family, group, or nation-state that create a sense of togetherness?

Join us for another early harvest festival at Silo City. Our productions at the silos represent what has been metaphorically sown and reaped; familially, locally and globally. They are also meditations on universal themes. In Commensality we explore the idea: How does sharing food create identity?

Not only are these early harvest festivals a ritual performance – they are also a gathering together of the community.  We offer a space to come back to each year and to be part of an ongoing celebration. You are the ceremony – this is the ritual. We create an open space for people to come together, to reflect on the past year: what was gained, what was lost? What has changed and what needs changing? Who has come into our lives and who has left? A space to prepare for the coming year. A time in mid-August when the summer is ending but not yet over. The days are still long and the nights still warm.

You are cordially invited to join us this August at the table under the Cottonwood tree for our early harvest festival where we will celebrate the act of eating together to explore ideas of group identity, boundaries and borders. Dress in your best black and white al fresco attire. You will be selected to join a team and gifted with a custom t-shirt. Where will you be seated?

In this collaborative performance in partnership with Always Something Farm, the dinner table is the performance. Four courses of tastings bring an intimate audience together in the epic landscape of Silo City. Each tasting represents the transition of a border and a distinct moment in the timeline of history.

Tasting Menu

  • Goat cheese stuffed dates (vegetarian, dates without cheese for vegan option)
  • Lamb kebabs or potato kebabs (vegan)
  • Pickled vegetables (vegan)
  • Twinkies or Oreos (vegan) with berry drizzle
  • A series of special toasts (water option)

Tastings are not a full meal, audiences may want to enjoy a full dinner beforehand at Duende, Ballyhoo or the Swannie House nearby. All consumption is optional and the food constitutes a relatively small portion of the performance.

Doors open at 7:30pm, come early and enjoy the golden hour in the magical setting of Silo City. Please arrive no later than 7:45pm to check-in as the performance will begin promptly at 8:00pm.
